ECI Granted UNEA Observer Status

The Environmental Compliance Institute has been granted Accreditation as an Observer to the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA) – the Governing    Body of UN Environment. The Accreditation was effected on 28th July 2016 following a successful application by ECI to the UNEA Secretariat.  The Accreditation is an important milestone for ECI at a time when the organization is widening its sphere of influence in the field of the environment. ECI will henceforth receive invitations as an observer to all public meetings and sessions of UNEA and its subsidiary organs.

In the process leading up to sessions of the UNEA the accredited civil society organizations have the possibility to receive unedited working documents of the UNEA at the same time as the Committee of the Permanent Representatives; and to submit to the UNEP Secretariat written contributions to these unedited working documents of the UNEA for distribution to the Governments.  In addition, accredited civil society organizations may designate representatives to sit as observers at public meetings of UNEA and its subsidiary organs. Finally, upon the invitation of the President or Chairman, as the case may be, and subject to the approval of UNEA or the subsidiary organ concerned, accredited civil society organizations may make oral statements on matters within the scope of their activities.
