ECI’s Board of Directors comprises of a team of professionals with diverse academic and career backgrounds who bring together their respective expertise and experiences to fulfil the organization’s mission. The team is currently made up of the following:
Gerphas Keyah Opondo – Executive Director
Mr. Opondo is the Founder and Executive Director of the Environmental Compliance Institute where he is providing strategic leadership for ECI’s work in supporting the development and implementation of appropriate policy, legislative and institutional models for sustainable development in Africa. He is a lawyer with longstanding experience in environmental governance and regulatory cycle development. He has played lead roles in the formulation of regional, national and sub-national environmental policies, laws, regulations and standards across East Africa. Read Full Bio »
Dr Godwin Omondi Opinde – Chairman
Dr. Opinde Chairs ECI’s Board of Directors. He is a Lecturer in the Department of Environmental Planning & Management at Kenyatta University (KU), Kenya. Before joining academia he served as an Environmentalist in the Planning and Environment Department of the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) and also at Kenya’s National Environment Management Authority (NEMA). He has also worked as an Environmental Consultant at Edge Associate Company Ltd and as an in-house consulting environmentalist in various firms. Read Full Bio »
Helidah Susan Andere – Treasurer
Ms. Andere is a member of ECI’s Board of Directors and holds the position of Treasurer. She owns and runs her business in Nairobi. She is a professional in the hospitality industry and honed her skills at the Sarova Group of Hotels. Read Full Bio »
